ALPINE – The 2023 edition of the Sage, Sul Ross State University’s art and literature magazine, has been distributed across campus, and submissions for the 2024 edition are now open.

The most recent edition of the Sage features both undergraduate and graduate students’ poetry, prose and art from the 2022-23 academic year. The Sage was first published over 80 years ago and accepts submissions in both Spanish and English.

Much of the writing featured in the 2023 Sage focuses on such themes as femininity, love, heartbreak and nature.

When it came time to put together the final product, it was all hands on deck. Graduate student editors Kiahna Garcia, Edwin Urias and Shane McDaniel sifted through submissions from students of all Sul Ross campuses in search of the best literary works, and Abigail Elizondo, an SRSU student, had the pleasure of picking which art samples would be featured in the new edition of the Sage.

Johanna Covington and Brooke Manuel of the Sul Ross Skyline helped perfect the content by proofreading and provided insight on how the magazine should be designed. Finally, Bobby Greeson, SRSU’s media specialist, worked his graphic design magic and finalized the magazine.

The Sage would like to give a special thanks to Sid Balman, SRSU’s writer in residence, and Theron Francis, SRSU’s associate professor of English, for their professional insight as faculty advisors of the 2023 Sage.

Current SRSU students are welcome to submit their poetry, prose, creative essays, short stories, art and photography to Brooke Manuel at bnm21ye@sulross.edu for a chance to be published in the 2024 edition of the Sage.
