ALPINE – After teammate Brady Wade was diagnosed with cancer, the Sul Ross men’s soccer team came together to support him by raising over $13,00 through a GoFundMe and hosting a soccer camp April 25.

The soccer camp, dubbed ‘Goals for Brady’ attracted a crowd of fourteen participants ranging from 13 to six years old. Sul Ross Kinesiology professor Mary Powers and her daughter were both in attendance.

“I think it is cozy turnout for the short notice.” Powers said. “It is good to see students take initiative.”

Diego Flamenco, a Sul Ross sophomore who was involved with the planning of the event, said he was very happy with the turnout, thanking parents who brought additional cash donations the day of the camp. The soccer camp consisted of a variety of games led by members of the men’s soccer team, which Flamenco said the kids enjoyed.

“It was awesome seeing the community supporting our brother and raising money and giving additional donations towards him and his treatment, it was very heartwarming.” said Flamenco, who also shared that although the camp was over, the GoFundMe is still accepting donations.

The Skyline also reached out to Brady Wade, who is currently receiving treatment for his cancer diagnosis. “I’m very grateful for all the support and seeing my teammates and the community come together. It means a lot and I couldn’t have asked for a better show of support.”
