By: Maya Tinajero, Skyline Desk-Chief

ALPINE – On April 5, a group of protesters organized themselves at the Civic Center to participate in what has been called a “Hands-Off” protest. The gathering was just one of many that are taking place across the nation, organized to show public resistance to the Trump Administration’s actions.

A few Sul Ross students and faculty attended the protest.

Sul Ross student Bailey Larremore describes the protest as “quiet.”“Everyone was there, just talking about how Trump has affected every one of us in a different way,” she told the Skyline.

Signs from the protest highlighted a variety of issues including social security, and staffing cuts from the Department of Government Efficiency.

The group of protestors were able to complete their walk through town with only two minor altercations. Despite these altercations, Larremore explains their own personal reasons for attending, “I’m on testosterone and that will probably be affected. We live in Texas,” says Larremore.

Tina Neufeld, another Sul Ross Student who attended the protest, described her feelings during, “It was important for me to be involved, show my support, and to speak out about the distress occurring in our nation.”

According to the Associated Press, these “Hands-Off” protests were organized in more than 1,200 locations in all 50 states. The organizers of the nationwide protests varied.
