ALPINE- A man was detained by local law enforcement after entering Lobo Village dormitory late Thursday night, said university officials, speaking under conditions of anonymity.

They said no weapons were seized at the time of the intruders’ arrest, and the identity of the individual has yet to be released. Campus and Alpine police are continuing to investigate the intrusion to make sure it was an isolated incident.

The Office of Residential Living sent out an email at 11:43 p.m. informing residents of the dormitory that University Police as well as the Alpine Police Department were on campus. The message advised residents to remain in their rooms until further notice.

“We (Office of Residential Living) are advising you stay in your unit and lock both locks as it is unsafe to leave your unit at this time,” it said and asked that residents not open their units for anyone.

Less than thirty minutes after this first emergency message, the Office of Residential Living sent out another email informing students that, “University Police has given us all clear.” and that it was now safe to leave their units.

University officials could not confirm whether the unknown individual is a student of Sul Ross University; however, they indicated that the intruder entered the dormitory through a door that had been propped open, and warned students to make sure doors are firmly closed.
