BREAKING: Skyline Excellence at this Years TIPA Conference
By: Maya Tinajero, Skyline Editor
ALPINE – This weekend Skyline Advisor Sid Balman and Copy-Chief Viviana Sanchez traveled to Denton, Texas to represent the Skyline at this year's Texas Intercollegiate Press Association (TIPA) Convention. The paper received eight awards across various categories.
The TIPA Convention is held each spring in various locations around the state and attracts anywhere from 300 to 600 students as well as faculty advisors. The convention features a plethora of events including workshops, presentations, live contests, a career fair, and an awards ceremony. Since its start in 1909, the convention has grown to be recognized as one of the largest and most respected collegiate groups in the country.
In the five years that advisor Sid Balman has been with the paper, this is the most awards the Skyline team has received.
“Awards, although at 8 this is the most ever, are a reflection of the hard work and dedication of our staff. I can’t think of another time in our history when the transparency of a robust media is more important.” said Balman, “We at The Skyline know that, and clearly so does the administration at Sul Ross.”
The success at this year's convention showcases the reputation being built and sustained by the Skyline staff; it marks a very proud moment in the program's history.
