ALPINE– Sul Ross State has said goodbye to a valued community member. Katy Williams left her position at the university to move closer to family.
During her time at Sul Ross State, Williams was well known in the community for her wide-reaching involvement on campus and across Alpine. She played a vital role in directing operations at the Lobo Pantry, the campus initiative that supports students needing food assistance. Williams also assisted with student grievances, student transportation, commencement preparation, general student support, and community service and engagement opportunities.
As Williams transitions out of her role, her university email will remain active through the end of October to answer further questions or concerns. She also sent an email about her departure and who will take over some of her duties.
The Lobo Pantry has taken this as an opportunity to provide leadership to student workers. The student team works alongside new Pantry Manager Celeste De La Rosa and Supervisor Jimena Proaño Carrasco, who oversee administrative needs and provide guidance to other workers. However, student staff handle most direct decision-making and operational workflow.
Before Williams left, she provided various manuals and instructions for student-workers to refer to as needed. Williams also made it clear how much faith and trust she has in her students’ ability to run the pantry smoothly without someone in the office with them daily.
This change shows that students can handle more than we think and creates future opportunities for other students to get more involved, whether it’s with the Lobo Pantry or other student organizations. Student workers Miranda Ortiz and Saniah Reynolds have split their responsibilities to keep the campus resource running effectively. Ortiz oversees physical inventory, food storage, and space organization, while directly tracking supply levels and communicating all needs to the supervisors. Reynolds handles communication and administration, including records of pantry visits, monthly visits, special deliveries, and produce distributions. She also handles community announcements by sending emails, maintaining spending logs, and keeping administrative records.
Thanks to the structured transition and foundation Williams left, the Lobo Pantry remains fully operational and prepared to continue serving students at Sul Ross State University.
